"Film Village Ellmau" from the Edelweiss King to the Mountain Doctor
Exhibition at the Local Museum from June 27 to August 08, 2025 with photo treasures & film history from the Wilder Kaiser
Not only the popular TV series "Der Bergdoktor" has been filmed at the Wilder Kaiser since 2007, but already in 1938, Ellmau provided an impressive film backdrop with the Kaiser Mountains for the adaptation of Ludwig Ganghofer's story "The Edelweiss King". And there were more local films with love dramas and mountain adventures, such as the feature film "VIOLANTA," shot here in 1942, where Georg Gogl, the then innkeeper of Gasthof Au, participated as an extra with his horse and carriage and received 15 unique photos of the shoot as a memento. His daughter, Erna Kopp, will recount the photos and their story at the opening. These and other recordings of film scenes in Ellmau and the Kaiser Mountains form the centerpiece of the special exhibition "Film Village Ellmau".
The exhibition also focuses on "Der Bergdoktor," who has been ordained in Ellmau for 18 seasons.
To conclude the exhibition, on Friday evening, August 08, at 21:00, the entertaining feature film "Ski Instructor Cilli," which was filmed on location in 1956, will be shown as an open-air cinema at the museum with free admission. Besides the funny film story, the Ellmau of that time is surely the main actor!
Opening hours of the exhibition:
Fridays 14:00 - 18:00 & Mondays 19:30 - 21:00 during the torch hike (with registration)
Admission to the exhibition and outdoor cinema is free!
