Ellmau Stone Circle circuit

Ellmau Stone Circle circuit

Description

Above the Wochenbrunner Alm is the Ellmau Stone Circle, a natural energy field in the form of a giant mandala. This easy tour starts at the Wochenbrunner Alm. With your back to the mountain hut, turn left and follow trail no. 14 up a slight incline. After around 30 minutes, you will come to the clearing with the Ellmau Stone Circle.
Having boosted your energy reserves, you should turn around and follow the same route back. Alternatively, you can follow the forest trail that runs above the route you took to reach the Stone Circle. The root-covered trail marked with the number “822” features a series of ascents and descents (slippery when wet – please take care). The trail makes a sharp bend just before reaching the Hausbach stream. If you want to continue further up, turn left and you'll reach the Gaudeamushütte mountain hut in around 30 minutes. Turn right, and the path will take you back along the stream to the starting point where you can round off the hike with a relaxing refreshment stop.

Tip: on the way to the Stone Circle, look for a small stone and take this with you as a token of energy. This ensures that you will always have the spirit of the Wilder Kaiser with you at home.
