Kleines Törl

Kleines Törl

Kleines Törl

Description

This demanding and scenic mountain tour begins at the hiking starting point in Tannbichl. Head past the barriers at the end of the car park, following the Gildensteig trail as you head towards the Kleines Törl. After around 200 metres, you will come to a basin that is fed by the sources of the Wilder Kaiser. Take your time and savour the fresh water. Suitably refreshed, you should then continue the walk. The Tannbichlkapelle, which was built around the the middle of the 19th century, will then come into view. This small chapel is a real mountain climbers’ chapel that pays homage to the memory of mountain climbers who have perished in accidents.
As you follow the forest road towards the Gaudeamushütte mountain hut, you will find that this merges into a hiking path. The path leads you through the forest, which provides you with shade on hot summer days until you reach the intersection. This indicates the way to the Kleines Törl along the Gildensteig trail. Walk along the path, crossing a forest road at the clearing near the end of the forest. A couple of steeper passages will then bring you to the Bergsteigergrab. This is the actual final resting place of “Much Wieser”, who was a textbook example of a true mountain climber. His dying wish was to be buried here in this beautiful place.

Following the narrow path, you should keep heading north to reach the Wilderer Kanzel – a unique viewpoint in the Wilder Kaiser region. Afterwards, you will head north up a steadily increasing incline featuring a series of sharp bends that leads you up through Alpine meadows. The scenery ranges from rocky terrain to mountain pines in certain sections. Surefootedness and a good head for heights are essential as of this point. The narrow paths snake their way up to the rock faces before crossing beneath the Törlwand rock face. They then head west until they join up with the Kleines Törl, where you will have a fantastic view down towards the north. You can survey the heart of the Wilder Kaiser region, including the Kleinkaiser and Mitterkaiser. Enjoy the tranquil atmosphere and drink in the majestic scenery.

Sufficiently rested, you should then walk back along the same route until shortly before the Wilderer Kanzel. Here, you should turn west on to the Wilder-Kaiser-Steig trail no. 823 until you reach the turnoff that heads towards the Gaudeamushütte mountain hut. As of this point, you need to follow trail no. 824 all the way to the Gaudeamushütte. Afterwards walk south towards the hiking starting point in Tannbichl. Head via the Märchenwiese to reach the starting point.
