Bergdoktor Filming Locations
in the Wilder Kaiser region
The Wilder Kaiser is the setting for the well-known TV series "Der Bergdoktor". Filming for the new season takes place on location every year. The four Kaiser towns of Ellmau Going, Scheffau and Söll are home to many well-known filming locations, such as the Gruber family farm, the mountain doctor's surgery, the Wilder Kaiser inn and Hintersteinersee lake. Take a look behind the scenes of the TV series "Der Bergdoktor" on a visit to the filming locations and learn all about the background to the doctor's series at the Wilder Kaiser. On this page you will find all the information about the original locations, including opening times and important information for visitors.

The village square in Going is the centrepiece of the village. In addition to the church, it is also home to the Gasthof Wilder Kaiser, which has been transformed from a tranquil former farmhouse, where owner Johann Gschwendtner lives, into a film inn since filming began.
"During filming, things get really busy," says the elderly landlord. "The only place left for me to retreat to is my room." Outside of filming, the house – which has plenty of stories to tell – returns to its peaceful self.
Anyone who would like to book a table or even a room at the Gasthof Wilder Kaiser will be disappointed at this point. The beautiful courtyard is not actually an inn at all and is only used for exterior shots in the series "Der Bergdoktor".
Another gem of the village square in Going is the stone village fountain built in the 1960s with a copper statue depicting St Florian, the patron saint of fire brigades.

There are two locations for the Gasthof Wilder Kaiser: the exterior shots are from the old village grocer's house on the village square in Going and the interior shots were filmed in the renowned Föhrenhof restaurant in the Auwald district of Ellmau.
The Föhrenhof has been an insider tip for gourmets since it was built by Eduard and Annemarie Told in 1967. The restaurant is now run by sons Robert and Ewald Told and is the centrepiece of the family business, which now includes a hotel with 40 beds.
What makes the family-run Föhrenhof in Ellmau so special is the cuisine, which has been consistently excellent for over 40 years, as well as the feel-good atmosphere. No wonder that the Bergdoktor landlady Susanne Dreiseitl, played by Natalie O'Hara, feels right at home at the Föhrenhof.
