Bergdoktor’s surgery

Filming location for the popular series *Der Bergdoktor*

The Hinterschnabel farm was first mentioned in the village’s history as early as 1694. Johann Leitner, a former mayor of Ellmau, took over the farm from his mother in 1985 and has been running it ever since at Faistenbichl in Ellmau.

Until the film crew from *Bergdoktor* in 2007 took notice of the farm, the residential wing had stood empty as it was not connected to the mains electricity supply. Since the Bergdoktor has been running his on-screen practice there, the former farmhouse rooms have been lovingly converted and refurbished. The meadows and fields of the Hinterschnabel farm are still managed by Hans Leitner.

The people of Ellmau are proud of their new landmark, which is now admired by around 8 million television viewers for several weeks each year and whets the appetite for a holiday in the Tyrolean mountains.
