Whether you’re hiking to one as a dedicated destination or simply stopping to recharge, the views of the surrounding mountain panorama are always breathtaking.
Please note that access to and swimming in the mountain lakes is not permitted.

Lakes in the Wilder Kaiser region of Tyrol: Frequently asked questions about swimming lakes, mountain lakes, natural lakes, swimming and day trips

The Wilder Kaiser – Brixental mountain region is home to numerous mountain lakes, including Hartkaisersee, Tanzbodensee and Rübezahlsee in Ellmau, Jochstub’n See in Scheffau, Astbergsee in Going, and Lechensee and Innerkeatsee in Söll. Other mountain lakes can be found in Hopfgarten, Westendorf and Brixen, amongst other places.
However, swimming is not permitted in the mountain lakes.

The lakes in the Wilder Kaiser region combine crystal-clear water with stunning mountain views. Many of the lakes are fed by natural springs from the mountains, offering a truly authentic experience of the Tyrolean mountain landscape.

Swimming is not permitted in all lakes. Access to and swimming in the mountain lakes of the Wilder Kaiser – Brixental mountain region is prohibited. However, designated swimming lakes and facilities such as Ahornsee Söll, Badesee Going, KaiserBad in Ellmau and the lido at Hintersteiner See are suitable for swimming .

Yes, many of the lakes in the Wilder Kaiser region can be visited as part of a hike. Some mountain lakes are ideal as hiking destinations or as places to stop and take in the views of the surrounding mountain scenery. Please be sure to follow the relevant guidelines, particularly regarding bans on swimming and entering the water.
