Dorf 51, Scheffau am Wilden Kaiser

Beschrijving

A Romanesque church was probably built here as early as the 13th century. 200 years later a Gothic building with pointed windows, vaults and door frames followed. The church tower and the Gothic figure of the Madonna in the top left of the nave date from this period.
The parish church has existed in its current baroque form since 1756. The murals are by Matthias Kirchner from Kitzbühel. The high altarpiece was painted in 1868 by Johann Nep. Strasser painted. It shows the two parts of the church above Scheffau.
In 1980 the church was last renovated on the outside. A major interior renovation followed in 2001/02. The people's altar, the ambo and the baptismal font were made of light Italian marble, and the confessional and the main portal were made of wood. The porch and the staircase from the community center are particularly inviting.

Patrons of the Scheffau church:
John the Baptist (June 24th) and John the Evangelist (December 27th).

Church services: The services can be found on the website at www.pfarre.scheffau.net
