"Film Village Ellmau" from the Edelweiß King to the Mountain Doctor
The municipality of Ellmau & TVB Wilder Kaiser/Ellmau invites you:
to the opening on June 27 at 7 PM at the Riedhaus Museum with Mayor Klaus Manzl & honorary guests
Not only has the popular TV series "The Mountain Doctor" been filmed at Wilder Kaiser since 2007, but as early as 1938, Ellmau with the Kaiser Mountains provided an impressive film setting for the adaptation of Ludwig Ganghofer's narrative "The Edelweiß King." This was followed by further homeland films featuring love dramas and mountain adventures, such as the feature film "VIOLANTA," which was made here in 1942, where Georg Gogl, the then innkeeper of Gasthof Au, participated as an extra with his horse and carriage and received 15 unique photos from the shooting as a keepsake. His daughter Erna Kopp will tell the story behind the photos at the opening. These and other recordings of film scenes in Ellmau and in the Kaiser Mountains form the heart of the special exhibition "Film Village Ellmau."
The exhibition also dedicates a focus to the "Mountain Doctor," who has been practicing in Ellmau for 18 seasons.
To conclude the exhibition, the entertaining feature film "Ski Instructor Cilli," which was shot on site in 1956, will be shown as an outdoor cinema at the museum on Friday evening, July 25 at 9 PM, with free admission. Besides the funny film story, Ellmau from back then is sure to be the main star!
