Description
exposed crossing leading directly to the summit of the Unteres Gamskarköpfl. The via ferrata (difficulty level D) is equipped with very few stirrups. After climbing for another hour you reach the Sonneck summit (2,260m).
Requirements: a good head for heights and surefootedness as well as very good physical condition and alpine experience are absolutely essential!

Start in Scheffau at the Jägerwirt hiking starting point. Hike to the Hinterschiesslingalm mountain hut and continue to the Steiner-Hochalm mountain hut. Here, turn off onto Jägersteig trail 823 to the Walleralm. Continue on trail 827 via Hochegg mountain with stunning views of the Inntal valley and then on to the Zahmer Kaiser via the Steingbergalm Alpine pasture and the Kaindlhütte mountain hut (hiking time around 4h). Overnight stay.

Day 2:
From the Kaindlhütte mountain hut, descend via the Bettlersteig trail until you come to the Kufstein via ferrata fork. Follow the Güttlersteig trail to a moraine at around 1,570m – turn left here and climb through a steep couloir until you come to a striking
larch tree. Then, a short distance downhill beings you to the entrance (approach time from the Kaindlhütte around 3–3.5h).

Alternative: two-day tour from the Kaisertal valley with an overnight stay at the Anton-Karg-Haus.
