Handicraft Market Going

Over 35 years of living tradition on the village square

The Kaiser village of Going has preserved much of its original charm – so it’s no surprise that a very special tradition has been kept alive here for more than 35 years.
On five summer evenings, nearly forgotten crafts are brought back to life on the idyllic church square.

Over 100 craftsmen revive old crafts

And there's always music in the air – gently drifting across the square, never overpowering, always in tune with the atmosphere. The women of Ellmauer Stubenmusig take turns with the Söllander Hoagaschtmusig trio, playing harp, dulcimer, guitar and zither. It’s genuine folk music that accompanies the lively market scene without trying to steal the spotlight.

Young dancers and Schuhplattler (traditional dancing) groups from the region also help create a cheerful mood at the Goinger Handicraft Market – a place full of things to see, discover, and try out for yourself.

Even long-forgotten crafts make a brief but vivid return to life on this open-air stage between the Wilder Kaiser and the village church. The Wallner brothers fire up the centuries-old turning wheel once more, Hans the blacksmith hammers red-hot iron nails, and Helga shows how traditional Hundsfötter pastries are made.

At 8 p.m., the Bundesmusikkapelle Going (traditional local brass band) enters the square and performs a well-balanced concert of traditional and modern pieces in the pavilion – framed by charming sutlers, who treat the crowd to a delicious Marillenradler (apricot shandy).

The Going Handicraft Market, now a firm fixture in the village’s summer calendar, has long since become a cherished local tradition in its own right.
