Description
A medieval custom that also has a long tradition in Tyrol is the mountain fires (Johannisfeuer), which are lit at the summer solstice on the Wilden Kaiser. Numerous clubs and groups make their way every year to light their fires that evening and celebrate the longest day of the year. Shortly after darkness falls, large summer solstice fires shine from the mountains and provide a mystical backdrop. The ridge of the Wilden Kaiser is illuminated with over 5000 torches. There are also spectacular fire images with different motifs and symbols to see.
