All Bergdoktor Seasons
Seasons 1-18 at a glance
Since 2007, the neue deutsche Filmgesellschaft (ndF) has been filming a new season of the popular TV series Der Bergdoktor on the Wilder Kaiser every summer. The series is broadcast on ZDF and ORF.

In the 18th season of the popular series *Der Bergdoktor*, things become personal, emotional and deeply dramatic. Set once again against the awe-inspiring backdrop of the Wilder Kaiser, Dr Martin Gruber finds himself facing not only exceptional medical cases, but also profound changes in his private life.
This new season challenges everything: relationships are tested, old wounds are reopened, and new paths begin to emerge. Martin’s relationship with Karin deepens – but harmony remains elusive. Tensions within the family and the weight of past decisions hang heavy over the Gruberhof.
At the same time, Martin must once again draw on all his sensitivity and medical expertise to care for his patients – but this time, his own happiness is on the line. A dramatic event shakes the family to its core, pushing the usually composed doctor to his limits.
Yet even in the face of upheaval, Martin finds the strength for a courageous new beginning – one that brings unexpected consequences for everyone close to him.
Martin once again finds himself facing major challenges – both professionally and personally. Alongside complex medical cases that require all his empathy and expertise, his private life is also under strain. Tensions within the family continue to grow, while both past and new romances put his heart to the test. Surrounded by the breathtaking scenery of the Wilder Kaiser, Martin fights for the wellbeing of his patients – and for balance in his own life.
Lisbeth is in hospital following a breakdown, but she doesn’t want Martin involved in the investigation. He struggles at first to accept her decision. In the meantime, he and his brother Hans slowly begin speaking again, and Martin offers to help out with the farm work. With his planned stay in New York postponed indefinitely, he accepts an invitation from Karin Bachmeier.
Martin is struggling to come to terms with the separation from Anne and the fact that his son is now living with Franziska in the USA. Anne’s absence is keenly felt on the farm, and once again the Gruberhof is facing serious financial difficulties.
Meanwhile, Lilli begins an internship at the clinic, where she meets her grandfather and aunt – Rolf and Caro Pflüger. Her curiosity about her late mother’s side of the family begins to grow. Although Martin and Hans agree they should keep the Pflügers at arm’s length, it is Rolf Pflüger himself who takes the first step, making a tempting offer: he wants to invest in Grubermilch as a partner.
Hans is strongly opposed – he believes that becoming too closely tied to his late wife’s family would only cause more problems for the Grubers. Caro, who supports her father's proposal, urges Martin to change his brother’s mind. Martin soon finds himself under pressure – especially when a long-buried secret from the past threatens to come to light.
Martin ultimately chooses to confess, and in doing so, deeply wounds his brother Hans. The revelation puts the entire family at risk of falling apart. In the midst of this emotional turmoil, Martin receives an unexpected invitation: he is asked to visit his son Johann and Franziska in New York.
With every attempt at reconciliation failing, Martin begins making plans to leave. He looks for a successor for his practice and arranges a flat in New York. Neither Lisbeth nor Lilli can convince him to stay. How long he will be gone – he doesn’t yet know.
Franziska plans to move to New York before the birth of her son. Martin confirms that she is fit to fly – but during the flight to America, she collapses and ends up in intensive care. The incident triggers serious consequences for Martin. Franziska’s mother, Thea, accuses him of negligence and threatens legal action, even attempting to deny him access to his son. The medical association also begins to investigate.
Franziska remains unaware of the turmoil – she’s in a coma when her son is delivered. Thea demands that Martin give up custody and uses her influence to shut down the Grubermilch bottling plant as pressure. It’s only when Franziska finally wakes from her coma that Martin and Anne are able to bring the baby, Johann, home to the Gruberhof. There, Anne takes loving care of Martin’s son.
At the same time, Martin continues to face daily challenges with the fates and complex medical histories of his patients. Meanwhile, Lilli is considering a major change: she’s thinking about quitting her job at the practice to help out in her friend Robert’s workshop.
Franziska soon recovers and is well enough to take Johann back into her care. But will she return to New York straight away – and what does this mean for Anne, who has been caring for the child with such devotion over the past few weeks?
After years of back and forth, Martin Gruber (Hans Sigl) is finally on good terms with his Anne (Ines Lutz). They enjoy their time together and are only disturbed by the odd medical emergency.
But hard times are once again ahead at the Gruberhof. Franziska (Simone Hanselmann) is pregnant and Martin is the father. After Anne finds out about the pregnancy, she is devastated. What should she do now? Martin is torn between his love for Anne and his future role as a father.
But he is also preoccupied with the fates of his patients. Will he be able to help them all and what will become of his relationship with Anne and the Gruberhof?
Bernd Tannhofer (Anian Zollner), the owner of a small cheese dairy, suffers a sudden collapse. Dr Martin Gruber (Hans Sigl) is called out to the mountain pasture to assist. At first, everything points to an epileptic seizure – but no clear cause can be found. When Tannhofer’s young son then develops a high fever, Dr Kahnweiler (Mark Keller), Dr Fendrich (Rebecca Immanuel) and Dr Gruber begin to suspect poisoning. As Martin digs deeper, his investigations gradually uncover a shocking truth.
Meanwhile, Lisbeth (Monika Baumgartner) and Martin’s ex-girlfriend Anne (Ines Lutz) are pushing ahead with their plans for the future of the Gruberhof. Anne has decided to take over the farm and turn a profit with her own *Grubermilch* brand. It’s a difficult situation for both Anne and Martin, but it offers a welcome relief for brother Hans (Heiko Ruprecht), who is freed from the duties he so disliked. He moves into the inn with his daughter and partner Susanne (Natalie O’Hara), and finally begins to enjoy a more relaxed family life.
Martin Gruber is delighted to be reunited with his old friends Heiko and Hermine, with whom he once shared a formative time in New York. Together with his brother Hans, he organises a ski tour, guided by experienced mountain leader Tom and joined by Tom’s girlfriend Nina. But what starts as a carefree day in the snow quickly turns into a nightmare: the group is caught in an avalanche. While Martin, Hans, Heiko and Nina manage to save themselves at the last moment, Hermine and Tom are missing. After a desperate search, both are found alive – but severely hypothermic.
Meanwhile, tensions within the Gruber family continue to escalate. Uncle Ludwig is now demanding his share of the Gruberhof inheritance, and his health is visibly declining. Lisbeth agrees to meet him for dinner, but the encounter reawakens painful memories of their past affair, leaving her emotionally shaken.
Martin, meanwhile, is enjoying a casual relationship with Franziska – until he discovers that she lives next door to his ex-girlfriend Anne, who is currently going through a difficult time. It’s a situation that inevitably leads to friction.
Now that the Bergdoktor, Dr Martin Gruber, has parted ways with Rike and things have finally settled with his former partner Anne, he’s able to focus fully on himself and his work. But new trouble is already on the horizon: Ludwig Gruber – the brother of Martin and Hans’s father, Johann Gruber – suddenly reappears in Ellmau.
Johann died in a mountain accident during a tour the two brothers undertook together 20 years ago, after which Ludwig left and broke off contact with the family. So this reunion is far from warm. Martin never had a close relationship with his uncle, and Lisbeth not only holds Ludwig responsible for her husband’s death – her strong disapproval stems from much deeper wounds.
Hans, on the other hand, always had a soft spot for his uncle and is genuinely pleased to see him again. Lilli struggles to understand all the tension, especially as her great-uncle is seriously ill and simply wants to make peace. Yet despite his intentions, Ludwig’s return unwittingly drives a wedge through the family.
Dr Martin Gruber reopens his practice, where his patients once again confront him with both personal and professional challenges – especially when he ends up being admitted to Hall Hospital as a patient himself. Much to the displeasure of senior physician Dr Kahnweiler and Dr Vera Fendrich, even here the Bergdoktor insists on doing things his own way.
Privately, Martin is at a crossroads. He begins to take stock of his life and asks himself what he truly wants. His relationship with Anne ended in conflict, and his still-fresh romance with insurance agent Rike is also on shaky ground.
For the sake of the family-run farm, Lisbeth Gruber hopes to see her son reconcile with Anne. Rike, meanwhile, wants Martin to take the next step and move in with her.
In the ninth season of the hit series, Dr Martin Gruber (Hans Sigl) once again finds himself facing a heavy workload, fighting with unwavering dedication for the wellbeing of his patients – many of whose fates strike a deeply personal chord.
Following the death of Arthur Distelmeier, Martin hopes to make a fresh start with his daughter Anne and finally turn their long-troubled relationship into something lasting. But their new beginning is quickly put under strain when Anne finds herself on the brink of financial ruin.
Meanwhile, Lilli is off travelling in New Zealand, Hans is running the Gruberhof, and Lisbeth – still feeling the effects of smoke inhalation – is determined to get back to work on the farm, despite her ongoing health concerns.
A dramatic prelude to a new season of gripping episodes in the hit medical series set against the majestic backdrop of the Wilder Kaiser, starring Styrian actor Hans Sigl.
After a failed rescue mission, the charismatic Bergdoktor falls into a deep crisis of confidence and retreats to a remote Alpine guesthouse run by Ursula Strauss in search of clarity and renewal. Although a young avalanche victim is pulled from the snow alive, Martin Gruber is ultimately unable to save her – a loss that shakes him to the core.
Haunted by nightmares and paralysed by self-doubt, he begins to question his abilities and withdraws from those around him. In the isolation of a quiet mountain village, he tries to take a step back. But it’s not long before his medical skills are needed once again – and Martin is drawn back into the role he was born to play.
Dr Martin Gruber is ready to start a new chapter with Anne. The two find a peaceful retreat at her father’s farm – but the idyll doesn’t last long. When Arthur returns from rehab, he derails their plans, forcing Martin to move back to the Gruberhof.
Hans, meanwhile, begins flirting with Jonas’s teacher – a move that doesn’t go unnoticed. When Susanne finds out, she throws him out. Lilli is left heartbroken after Carsten ends their relationship as his band heads off on tour.
Dr Vera Fendrich moves in with Dr Kahnweiler, despite his uncertainty about the relationship – uncertainty he avoids addressing openly. And while Lisbeth feels as though she’s been left behind and is no longer needed, by the end of the season both of her sons have returned home to the Gruberhof.
The Bergdoktor once again finds himself facing numerous challenges: alongside personal turmoil, mysterious medical cases and dramatic rescue missions push him to his limits. Dr Martin Gruber has finally come to terms with his previous relationship and is hoping to take a more relaxed approach to love – at least for now. But then along comes the spirited Anne Meierling, and he finds himself completely under her spell…
Events are unfolding rapidly around Martin Gruber. Of all people, it’s Lena’s estranged husband Tom who is growing increasingly unwell under Martin’s medical care. Lena blames her new partner, and Martin fears their relationship is at risk as a result of her accusations. The ailing husband only complicates the already delicate situation, as he tries to win Lena back. And then there’s Lilli – Martin’s daughter – who is also proving a challenge for the Bergdoktor right now…
The story continues with both medical and personal upheavals in the life of the Bergdoktor, Martin Gruber, in the Wilder Kaiser region. While he fears for the life of his girlfriend Andrea, his brother Hans calls off his wedding to Klara. And it’s not only a stranded hiker in the mountains who urgently needs his help.
Things are going well at the Gruberhof and down in the valley. Martin's new love threatens to leave him, then an ex-fiancée suddenly turns up on his doorstep. But his brother Hans also has his difficulties in matters of love, while mum Lisbeth has a crush on a restaurant critic and Lilli is in love for the first time.
