With such a wide range of climbing opportunities in Tyrol, selecting just a few standout routes is no easy task. Yet a panel of renowned experts rose to the challenge and identified five exceptional sport climbing lines across the region – now known as the Great Lines.

These routes are ideal for passionate climbers seeking particularly beautiful and rewarding projects in difficulty grades 6 and 7. Out of thousands of options, the expert panel – made up of Barbara Bacher, Barbara Zangerl, Kilian Fischhuber, Markus Schwaiger, Martina Harnisch and Michael Meisl – selected five climbs that truly stand out.

Their decision was based on several key criteria: the natural setting and landscape experience, the line and character of the route, rock quality, and the physical and mental demands placed on climbers.

Among them is the legendary “Number One Direkt” at the Schleier Waterfall on the Wilder Kaiser – considered the mother of all sport climbing routes.
