Hintersteiner See, Scheffau
A natural gem in Scheffau am Wilden Kaiser
Lake Hinterstein is an enchanting lake, covering 56 hectares and reaching a depth of up to 36 metres; it lies at an altitude of 883 metres above sea level, high above Scheffau in the heart of the Wilder Kaiser Nature Reserve. A walk around the lake offers magnificent views of the turquoise-blue, shimmering waters of this crystal-clear mountain lake.
The northern shore is suitable for pushchairs and easily accessible for everyone, thanks to the tarmac path. Along this section, there are several places to stop for a break.
The southern shore winds its way through the forest, offering varied scenery. The path ascends and descends in places and includes some steps, which is why this section is not accessible to people with disabilities.
There is also a lakeside bathing area here, whose appeal lies in its natural setting. Being Tyrol’s clearest lake is reward enough for Lake Hinterstein in Scheffau.
