Awards & Quality Marks

Wilder Kaiser region

European Hiking Quality Mark

Having been awarded the European Hiking Quality Label, the Wilder Kaiser destination ranks amongst the very best hiking regions in Europe. As well as a superb signposting system, the hiking experiences are also perfectly organised. The destination is constantly working to improve the quality of its infrastructure, enhance the visitor experience, maintain the condition of its trails and improve standards in its accommodation providers.

Austrian Hiking Quality Mark

In 2011, the Wilder Kaiser destination became the first Alpine region in Austria to be awarded the Austrian Hiking Quality Seal. As part of this process, the Association for Quality Assurance in Hiking in Austria (Vereinigung zur Qualitätssicherung für Wandern in Österreich e.V.) carried out a comprehensive assessment of the four Wilder Kaiser towns – Ellmau, Going, Scheffau and Söll – as well as accommodation and hiking trails.

The certification focuses on the areas of service, wayfinding, experience and landscape/environment. The region’s scope, diversity, experience and impressions, as well as its quality, saw the Wilder Kaiser region emerge as the finest mountain experience in the Alps.

In the years that followed, the multi-day ‘Kaiserkrone’ hike and the Gaudeamus Hut were also awarded the Austrian Hiking Quality Seal.

Tyrolean Mountain Trails Quality Mark

Following on from 2018, the region was once again awarded the Tyrolean Mountain Trails Seal of Quality in 2023, whilst the Tauernblick Panorama Circular Trail was once again awarded the title ‘Tyrolean Mountain Trail with Distinction’.
This is awarded when the network of hiking and mountain trails is organised, marked, signposted, maintained and shown on overview maps in accordance with specified guidelines (as set out in the Tyrolean Hiking and Mountain Trails Concept).

Austrian Eco-Label

The Austrian Ecolabel is a government-awarded environmental label. In the Wilder Kaiser region, eight businesses currently hold this label.

As a member of Climbers Paradise, the Wilder Kaiser region is constantly striving to provide visitors with the highest standards in terms of the climbing facilities on offer. To meet these quality standards, the climbing areas are continuously optimised and all relevant information is presented clearly. This ongoing development forms the basis for an unforgettable climbing experience in the Wilder Kaiser.

Tyrolean Family Nests

There are currently 20 “Tiroler Familiennester” partner establishments in the Wilder Kaiser region. The region’s membership of the “Tiroler Familiennester” quality network guarantees the highest educational standards in our children’s and family programme. Many accommodation providers in the region are also family-friendly and, as quality-assured family accommodation, are counted amongst the partner establishments of the Tyrolean Family Nests.

Quality-certified Tyrolean summer cableways

The “Tiroler Sommerbahnen” initiative is a unique alliance of mountain railways across the entire Alpine region, dedicated to summer activities and outstanding, quality-assured experiences and attractions.

The Mountain Adventure Worlds of SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser – Brixental are also among these award-winning summer cable car operators. The partners are united by the aim of making a summer in the mountains a uniquely exciting experience, backed by a commitment to quality. Consequently, all themed mountains offer rigorously tested activities in at least one of the four experience specialisations: adventure, family, indulgence, and panoramic & nature experiences. Depending on the themed mountain, a comprehensive list of criteria must be met.

Ideal slopes, first-class facilities, all tailored to the needs of families with children of all ages: the quality-assured Tyrolean family ski region of Wilder Kaiser goes the extra mile to ensure an unforgettable winter holiday for parents and children alike. The region meets over 60 defined criteria, which are externally and independently verified, to ensure that all guests can enjoy a relaxing winter sports holiday. The ski area, restaurants, snow sports schools, ski hire and accommodation are all geared towards families seeking relaxation – this is what the stringent criteria of the certified family ski regions stand for. For guests, this means: arrive, get changed and head straight out into the snow – that’s what makes a winter holiday a joy.

Tyrol Tourism Award

The ‘Quality of Life in the Wilder Kaiser’ Project

In June 2019, the Wilder Kaiser Tourist Board had the honour of receiving its third Tirol Touristica Award. The ‘Quality of Life in the Wilder Kaiser’ project, which has been working since 2017 to promote the sustainable development of tourism with the involvement of the local community, was presented with this award at the Tyrolean Tourism Forum. The high-calibre jury praised the “Quality of Life in the Wilder Kaiser” project as “a forward-looking initiative that will hopefully have a lasting impact and inspire other regions.” We are proud and would like to express our gratitude for this award!

Landlord Coach Project

One of the main tasks of the tourism board is to support accommodation providers with their marketing. “It is important to us to equip all accommodation providers with the necessary know-how so that they can continue to attract new guests in the future,” says Hans Adelsberger, chairman of the tourism board. To this end, the Wilder Kaiser Tourist Board became the first Tyrolean tourist board to appoint its own accommodation provider coach in 2013. This coach offers in-house advice and technical support to accommodation providers, which has been a key factor in the tourist board’s success in optimising its marketing. The success was quickly apparent: booking figures multiplied within a few months and the quality of the offers available online improved enormously.

The Bergdoktor Region Project & Bergdoktor Weeks in the Wilder Kaiser

‘Der Bergdoktor’, a prime-time series that has been broadcast weekly on ORF and ZDF since 2008, uses the real place-names and field names of the Wilder Kaiser region and, through its beautiful landscape shots, significantly boosts the region’s profile and popularity. In 2007, the production was brought to the region thanks to long-standing contacts, providing cost-effective and sustainable promotional benefits. The Wilder Kaiser Tourist Board capitalises on the popularity of the series and its lead actor in its marketing and has created numerous experiences centred around the theme, including the successful ‘Bergdoktor’ fan weeks in May and September. For this innovative project, the Wilder Kaiser Tourist Board received the Tirol Touristica award in 2013.
