Advent in the Wilder Kaiser region
Christmas markets and Advent events
The run-up to Christmas is particularly atmospheric in the Wilder Kaiser region. This is when the old church squares are transformed into Advent markets brimming with local arts and crafts: In particular, the Christmas market in Going and Söll’s Nativity Advent invite you to enjoy a leisurely stroll through snow-covered villages, enchanting visitors with the scent of mulled wine and the sounds of contemplative folk music. Anyone wishing to experience a contemplative mountain Advent can take the Hartkaiserbahn from Ellmau up to 1,555 metres above sea level to Ellmi’s enchanting Mountain Advent. The Advent market on the Kneipp Trail in Scheffau, which takes place in an enchanting woodland setting, is also wonderful.
But before the peaceful time of year sets in on the Wilder Kaiser, things get really lively once more: in early December, around St Nicholas’ Day, the traditional Krampusse and Perchten traditionally run riot.
