Schleier waterfall climbing
The Schleier waterfall in Going: a 60 metre high rockface, in whose middle section a small mountain creek falls down like a rain veil, is famous as a Mecca for extreme climbers.
Alexander Huber, whom Reinhold Messner said he was the best of all rock climbers, provided the "Schleier" with numerous routes at X and XI levels toward the end of the 1980s, making it a core area for climbing worldwide. A such big amount of X-levelled climbing routes (app. 150) you will scarcely find at any other place worldwide! That's why Alex is so often at the "Schleier".
The young
Guido Unterwurzacher
, who lives in the village Going, is a friend and climbing partner of Alex and has described the Schleier waterfall as follows: "The "Schleier" is a temple made of rock, for a community of like-minded people. This is the place where everybody understands their limits: here everybody grows as a person. What matters is the next drag, the next take. You forget about trivial matters and the waterfall refreshs your back, as the sun beats down.
The Schleier waterfall - a climbing paradise at the Wilder Kaiser mountain range
The Schleier waterfall is, along with the Wilder Kaiser mountain, THE natural place to be; anyone who has not been to seen it should do so as soon as possible, because the "Schleier", at the foot of the mountain peak "Maukspitze" at the Wilder Kaiser, is a Mecca for extreme climbers.
In the middle of the
60 metre high rock a lively
mountain creek falls down as a veil, regathering in a small basin, tempting you to take a dip on hot summer days. More often than not, you will find some devotees there on a nice winter day, hanging on the rock without a shirt. The Schleier waterfall invites you to go climbing all year round. Hikers enjoy watching vertical acrobats. And on some occasions interested spectators have even been persuaded to have a go. |
