From the north side onto the Scheffauer (2,111 m)
The Widauersteig is a very beautiful and not too difficult path onto one of the Western summits of the Wilder Kaiser: the Scheffauer. The starting point is the comfortable family-owned Kaindlhütte on the romantic Steingbergalm at 1,293 m. From the Wilder Kaiser region, you can best reach the Kaindlhütte from the Hintersteiner See via the Walleralm in approx. 1.5 hours. The path is mostly secured with steel ropes and requires perfectly good balance and freeness of vertigo. From the summit of the Scheffauer, you will have an outstanding view of the Hintersteiner See, the Alpenhauptkamm and the Inn valley, all the way into Bavaria. Advice: Climbing down via the South side of the Wilder Kaiser, past the Steiner Hochalm to the Hintersteiner See or the Gasthof Jägerwirt. The entrance can be reached from the Kaindlhütte in approx. 1 hour at the base of the wall. Good balance and particularly freeness of vertigo are mandatory! Recommendation: Helmet and for inexperienced climbers also a climbing harness & fixed-rope route set.
