Description

From the car park on the eastern bank of the Hintersteiner See lake at 890 m, you follow the road heading west (no. 822), with sweeping views of the summits of the Scheffauer, Hackenköpfe and Wiesberg to the Sonneck. Above the Schneekar cirque you can see the mighty summits of the Treffauer and the Tuxeck mountains. Continue on the hiking trail along the southern bank from where you can have a wonderful view of the fish in the crystal-clear water. After a short climb you're soon back at the starting point where there’s a bus stop for the lake bus which runs several times a day in summer from Scheffau to the lake and back.

Possible refreshment stops:
the Seestüberl restaurant is located on the eastern bank of the Hintersteiner See. If you carry on along the road following the signs to Westufer, you’ll pass the Goingstätt refreshment stop. The Maier refreshment stop is just a few metres away.
