Description

Various hiking routes from the village center Scheffau to Lake Hinterstein:

Option 1: Via Seebachgraben to Lake Hinterstein 
(shown as blue route in the map / walking time: 1 h 30 min)
Starting from the center of Scheffau, follow the path no. 56 past the church and the municipal office down to Café Rosemarie. There you turn right and follow the signs in the direction of Hintersteiner See via Seebachgraben (path no. 43) until you reach the crystal-clear Lake Hinterstein.
Abbreviation: Before reaching the farm Grüblern there is the possibility to shorten left through the forest.

Option 2: Via Rehbach gorge to Lake Hinterstein 
(shown as green route and parallel to the red route in the map / walking time: 1 h 30 min)
Starting from the center of Scheffau follow the signs up to the Rehbachklamm and follow the path no. 42 to the car park Gaisberg. There you turn left and follow the path no. 822 via Steinerhof and Gasthof Bärnstatt until you reach Lake Hinterstein.

Option 3: via Rehbach gorge and Steiner Niederalm to Lake Hinterstein 
(shown as red route in the map / walking time: 2 h 30 min)
Starting from the village center Scheffau follow the signs up to Rehbachklamm and follow the path no. 42 to the end of the gorge. Then you pass the Hinterschießlingalm (trail no. 41) until you come to the crossroads where you turn left to Steiner Niederalm. From the pasture, take the road a bit towards Steiner Hochalm, after a sharp right-hand bend, leave the road and follow the path no. 821 to Gasthaus Bärnstatt. There you turn right and follow the path to Lake Hinterstein.

  • The composition of the trail varies between asphalt, hiking trail and forest trail.
  • Rucksack, sturdy hiking/mountaineering boots with anti-slip treaded soles, weather-appropriate hiking gear (breathable), a change of clothes, sun protection (sunglasses, sun cream, lip protection, headgear), waterproofs (rain jacket/poncho, pocket umbrella, rucksack protector), cold protection (hat, gloves), sufficient food and drink, hiking poles (height adjustable) if required, mobile phone with fully charged battery, headlamp, plastic bag for waste, hiking map, route description and information materials (GPX track), ID, insurance card, cash
  • Heading from Wörgl, Kufstein or St. Johann on the B178 road, take the exit to Scheffau. Shortly before you come to the church, you will see the Tourist Information Office and the hiking starting point on the left-hand side (short-stay parking zone).
