The Wilder Kaiser family region is richly endowed with natural treasures and unique natural surroundings. And thus from summer 2007, in the area between Going and St. Johann, an almost forgotten natural oasis has been awakened from its enchanted sleep.
Surrounding the Römerhof Inn there are moorland areas of varying sizes with flora and fauna which is unique in Europe. These were used in the past for agricultural purposes, then replanted and are now becoming naturalised again in a cross-border, interregional project in cooperation with the Austrian Forestry Commission.
In addition the already existing forest trails and footpaths have been improved and linked together in a nature-friendly manner and there is easy access for children’s buggies and people with limited mobility. It is now possible to get immediate access to this natural idyll from Going am Wilden Kaiser and also from St. Johann in Tirol. Notice boards provide visitors with explanations of the splendour of the moor landscape and, so you can enjoy the views across the moors and the surrounding area all the more, various observation platforms, for example at Hüttelmoos, have been built.
For families a forest adventure playground and an open-air class room have been set-up near the Römerhof. Further projects to enhance this unique landscape are already at the planning stage. |
